The Story Behind the Music

Monic Theory was created by composer Claro Q. Fix. Driven by a fascination with the natural systems of the harmonic series, Claro spent over a decade researching the underlying mechanics of chord structures and melody. This journey led deep into the physics of sound, the physical modeling of acoustic instruments, and the mathematics of complex analysis.

Before software, Claro was a professional violinist and music educator. He performed in the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra, Salina Symphony Orchestra, McPherson Symphony Orchestra, violin studio recordings, and recorded music with Agave Democracy and TV series Now Boarding. Now he is a livecode community builder, with contributions to Livecode NYC in New York City and Art Hack in Portland; and is the founder of Data Dancers in Atlanta, GA.

Claro's quest for the mathematical ursatz of music began in Buffalo, NY. He began to study the physical properties of sound: acoustics and the harmonic series. Further studies brought him to the Fourier methods and complex analysis, the latter being a critical tool for the Monic Theory synthesis engine.

This web application is the first built on the generative capabilities of the Monic Theory theorem, a systematic, parameterizable model for music. The theorem can also transform an arbitrary input score into a closed-form mathematical expression.
